About the Artists

Miami Art Project proudly supports Empowered Creative Fine Art and the ability, enthusiasm and independence of the artists and individuals of the Ann Storck Center. The featured collection exhibits the artwork of accomplished Expressive Arts Program veterans Mindy, Bobby and Linda.

Mindy paints with heart, frequently suggesting ideas inspired by her experiences or things she has heard of. Mindy’s explorations of various media and mediums have given her a unique avenue to express herself as well as a way to reach out to the community and benefit those around her. When she paints, Mindy often talks about how her art may help others to cope with their own situations, and how important it is to overcome your obstacles without becoming discouraged. Mindy’s paintings have been in juried exhibitions throughout South Florida and have been featured on television and in newspaper articles. Due to her skill and great imagination, the Center commissions Mindy each year to create a star chef for its premier fundraiser, Celebrity Chefs. Mindy’s paintings for this event depict delightfully unique chefs in different settings. The participating chefs look forward to the unveiling of the newest “Chef” and are presented with a personal copy every year.

Linda has overcome her disability by focusing on her many talents. A resident of the Ann Storck Center’s Gizmo house and attends daily classes at the Adult Day Training center. Linda’s passion for art is so strong, that she has even sought classes outside of ASC, to maximize her time painting as well as to improve her skills. Linda has been a part of the Ann Storck Center’s Fine Arts Program since its inception in 1994; she was among the first Empowered Creative artists to publish original works which included a poster and a desk calendar. Linda enjoys the process of making art and loves the studio environment. Her painting style is delicate, using gentle and muted colors, with carefully selected brushstrokes revealing her true sensitive nature. Lindas artwork has been featured in juried exhibitions throughout South Florida and in 2012, won the People's Choice Award at the Broward Art Guild for her original painting "Field of Flowers".

Bobby is a longtime participant of the Ann Storck Center’s Adult Day Training having joined the Fine Arts Program in 1994. Bobby began by working on very small surfaces, in a rigid, pointillist style. Through hard work and diligence, he has been able to open up his brush strokes, and now paints with smooth circles and broad lines, creating some of the more vibrant pieces in the Empowered Creative collection. Bobby’s progress and artistic development are profound examples of how creativity and expression can impact not only the life of the artist, but of the audience. Bobby delights in choosing vibrant colors and blending them on his painting surface, as he paints Bobby frequently steps back, thoughtfully choosing his next application of color. Bobby’s unique perceptions have contributed to several art exhibitions and publications. His paintings “Amapolas en La Noche” and “Poppy’s” have become some of Ann Storck Center’s most popular collection pieces.
